Construction work restarts at Everton stadium

Construction work will restart at the £500m Everton stadium site this morning following the death of a worker last week.

Work was suspended by main contractor Laing O’Rourke last week following the death of Michael Jones.

The contractor is also offering counselling to colleagues affected by the tragedy.

An O’Rourke spokesperson said: “Following discussions with the HSE, Everton and the family of Michael Jones, we informed our project team that we will resume construction operations at Bramley-Moore Dock on Wednesday 23 August.

“We have put in place additional support for everyone, including access to trained counsellors, and are focused on returning to work in an appropriate and respectful way following last week’s tragic incident.”
