designTimber webinar series will give behind-the-scenes view of award-winning buildings

The series begins on 18 May with the team behind Magdalene College Library, winner of the Gold Award - a project labelled a ‘tour de force of architectural design and achievement’ - as taken from the minds of Niall McLaughlin Architects and engineers Smith & Wallwork.

This will be followed on 8 June in a webinar with a presentation from the team who built The Welcome Building RHS Garden Bridgewater, including architects Hodder + Partners. This building is an incredible example of the light, open spaces possible through engineered timber products.

On 13 July attendees will have the chance to talk with Tsuruta Architects about Wooden Annex, an impressive refurbishment and extension of a long and narrow 1950s end-of-terrace house with the addition of a single-story timber annex.

The final selected case study in this first round will be on 14 September, with the Built East Pavilion from OGU Architects + Donald McCrory Architects – a small project from Belfast which draws on the rich industrial history of the area and innovative construction.

Timber Development UK CEO David Hopkins said:

“From university libraries to house extensions, the designTimber series will highlight some of the finest examples of timber design and construction in the UK.

“The structures in this series help show how we can use timber to build better, more beautiful, and with a reduced environmental cost as compared to other materials.

“This series of talks are relevant to architects, engineers, designers and students interested in timber and low carbon construction.

“We strongly encourage those entering the Wood Awards this year to come along to these webinars to learn more about what makes a winning entry.”
