New homes are tops at former Magistrates’ Court in Yate

On Friday 7 May the topping out ceremony was held to celebrate progress at the Court Walk development. The site is on the former Magistrates’ Court in Kennedy Way, Yate, which is being redeveloped into 45 new affordable homes.

Steve Trenwith, Land and Planning Director, Sovereign and Phil Barnes, Associate Director for E.G. Carter met to lay some ceremonial bricks and mark progress at the site, which is expected to house new residents in early 2022.

Sovereign Housing Association is investing around £8m into this new community supported by over £2m grant funding from Homes England. Working with developers E. G. Carter, the 45 new homes will be one, two and three-bedroom apartments and houses all available for social rent and nestled in the heart of Yate, South Gloucestershire.

Phil Barnes, Associate Director, E. G. Carter said ‘We are delighted to be delivering another land-led development for Sovereign Housing Association, this new development will deliver 45 much needed affordable homes in Yate. We are looking forward to creating further training and employment opportunities and to seeing what a positive impact these homes will have on the local community.’

South Gloucestershire Council Cabinet Member for Adults and Housing, Councillor Ben Stokes, said: “I am delighted to see that these much needed new affordable houses are almost ready to become homes for new residents. This project is a great example of partnership working to make the best use of land that becomes available in our communities being put to the best use to strengthen them.”
